I'm LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD HIP HOP HEADS (DJs/Turntablists, MCs/Spoken Word, Graf Artists, and B-Boys/B-Girls) for an event at the Vera Project on August 21st. Me, I DO IT FOR HIP HOP! I have been a HIP HOP child since 1968 and have hung out with some of the most innovative and creative people out there in the game on the East Coast. I remember going to Dapper Dans, chillin' with TC Islam, yelling at the 1988 Raising Hell concert, meeting LL Cool Jay and Grandmaster Flash at the Latin Quarter in New York, and walking up and down Canal Street looking for suede Adidas. As of right now, I'm in the Northwest and STILL have my two turntables and mixer and STILL DO IT for HIP HOP. N-E-WAY....nuff about me. I have been involved in non-profit work for years and have noticed a trend in that mainstream artists such as ballet, tap, pianists, cellists, drama, contemporary artists, modern artists, and others seem to be supported by the public financially through grants a whole lot more than those who celebrate and love this HIP HOP CULTURE. WHY? Maybe it's the negative press, maybe it's the drugs, maybe it's Kanye and his dissing of Taylor Swift??? LOL!! Whatever it is, I'm sick of it and want it to change. So that led me to my idea to put on a show in order to raise awareness. This event will be a PECHA KUCHA. Pecha Kucha (the Japanese for the sound of conversation) gathers creative individuals to share their work and ideas in an informal environment. Pecha Kucha Night was conceived in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (from Klein Dytham architecture, in Tokyo), as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to showcase their ideas, visions, work/areas of curiosity. Therefore, this Pecha Kucha will feature artists (YOU) displaying why YOU LOVE HIP HOP, YOUR INSPIRATIONS, YOUR DREAMS, AND YOUR GOALS! This show is a telling of why HIP HOP means so much to you and a chance for you to VISUALLY show off your skills.
So with that said, if you are interested in participating....Please hit me up at synystr@msn.com.
